Tourists and islanders alike have been waiting for this for a couple months now. Fine Fettle, a Massachusetts/Connecticut cannabis company is making history by opening the first recreational dispensary on Martha’s Vineyard. This island also happens to be a favorite vacation spot for many celebrities and officials, including former President Barack Obama.
Fine Fettle purchased the assets from Patient Centric, originally a medical-only cannabis dispensary on the island. The Fine Fettle store had its first soft opening earlier on Friday, July 23rd. For the time being, a limited stock for medical patients is available to test the waters. Fine Fettle expects to further open to recreational use in mid-August.
A recreational dispensary is a big step for Martha’s Vineyard. Even though it is Massachusetts territory, the waters between the mainland and this small haven are federal. This makes it illegal to bring even legally purchased cannabis to the island via ferry. With legal cannabis shops on the island itself however, the entire concern washes away with relief.
Fine Fettle and Island Time Dispensary on Martha’s Vineyard
Fine Fettle’s shop won’t be the only recreational Martha’s Vineyard dispensary for long, though. Geoff Rose, CEO of Patient Centric, acquired a license for recreational sales and will be starting up his new store as well. Island Time, another recreational dispensary on the Vineyard, opens in early August. Judging by how long it took Fine Fettle to get started, though (originally slated for late June), it could be even longer.
The staff of the store consists entirely of islander residents, both new and old, committing to the tightly knit community on the island. “We are all team players,” Jay Deyette, manager of the Fine Fettle Martha’s Vineyard dispensary, told MVTimes. “And we really are just so excited to finally bring this amazing opportunity to the Vineyard community, and help as many people as we can.”
Celebrities on Martha’s Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard is, as mentioned earlier, a large tourist attraction. People from all over come by boat or plane to sit by the beach, peruse seafood, and explore the island. With a legal method of acquiring cannabis now on the Vineyard, visitors who may not prefer alcohol can also get their buzz on; that also includes the large number of celebrities who frequent the area.
A handful of large names additionally own property on the Vineyard. Spike Lee, Jackie Kennedy, and David Letterman are current residents; as well as former President Barack Obama, who has been vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard with his family for years already. As it turns out, he is also having his 60th birthday party at the new $12 million estate in Edgartown. Multiple celebrities are expected to appear in the crowd during the celebration this weekend. With hundreds overall coming to the party, it’s likely a handful will be going to the new Fine Fettle location beforehand.
As a place that is a home and haven to some, and an unforgettable getaway to others, it’s likely Fine Fettle and Island Time will be making a killing very soon. Check out more info on these Martha’s Vineyard dispensaries by clicking the links below.
