There are several hemp-derived cannabinoids that are quite popular right now, including delta-8 THC, THC-O, and delta-10 THC.
Now, if you’re not familiar with cannabinoids, this may sound confusing, but hang tight to learn everything you need to know about the up-and-coming delta-10 THC.
What is Delta-10 THC?
Delta-10 THC was initially found by accident after a wildfire ravaged a California cannabis extraction company, Fusion Farms. Aerial firefighters dropped fire retardants, which contaminated the cannabis crops.
While Fusion Farms was distilling the extract to remove any non-volatile fire-retardant components, they noticed unusual crystals. It took several months for the firm to identify the unknown compound as delta-10.
“A lot of people had been seeing this mystery compound show up as a minor component on their distillate COAs, but they thought it was CBC. Without having a certified reference standard for Δ10-THC, typical HPLC analysis can misidentify Δ10-THC as CBC or CBL (cannabicyclol.)”

CBD oil is first extracted from legally grown hemp. It’s then processed into delta-10 THC using a chemical reaction. Delta-10 THC is very difficult to manufacture, so it’s not found in abundance. As a result, many products will combine delta-10 with delta-8.

“If you see a product out there that says 99% delta-10, I don’t believe it.”
Roger Brown, President and CEO of ACS Laboratory.
How Does Delta-10 THC Affect its Users?
Delta-10 can get you high, much like THC, but it is less potent than delta-9. Delta-9 is known for making its users feel high, euphoric, and sometimes a bit paranoid.
Delta-10 may inspire a cerebral high. Users also report an energizing effect. Researchers have compared the feeling to a sativa strain. Many people experience improved motivation and a sense of euphoria without the paranoia of delta-9.
“People who want to use a sleep aid, as an example, have used delta-8, [whereas] delta-10 gives you more creativity or perspective,” said Brown.
Is Delta-10 THC Safe to Consume?
Delta-10 is safe to consume. However, don’t buy delta products that have not been tested at an accredited lab. This due diligence will help ensure that your product has been purged of all chemicals and contaminants.
“Delta-8, delta-9, and even delta-10 don’t seem to have any ill effects on people that we know of at this point.”
Michael Coffin, chief scientist at Elevation Distro, a California-based cannabis manufacturing and distribution firm
“However, a lot of people are doing a poor job of cleaning up their reaction products,” Coffin adds, which results in “quite a soup” of by-products and other unwanted compounds.
Legitimate delta-10 products, like those tested at ACS Laboratory and other licensed labs, will have a QR code that shows proof of testing certification.
Is Delta-10 THC Legal?
Delta-10 is usually processed from hemp-derived CBD, and because hemp is legal all over the United States, delta-10 is also federally legal. The cannabinoid is usually available in vape carts, gummies, or other edibles, and can be delivered by mail around the country.
However, certain states have taken it upon themselves to outlaw delta-10. As a result, residents in 11 states are not allowed to buy, produce, or consume delta-10.
Most delta-10 producers won’t ship to the following states, where it’s been deemed to be illegal. This includes Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Rhode Island, and Utah.
