It’s a beautiful day for Apashe fans. KANNIBALEN Records’ own Classical Era-addict is hitting the road again after an arduous year of quarantine. Keep scrolling if you’re looking for tickets, because we have linked everything you need to know here.
Montreal-based, Brussels-blooded, Apashe has been creating a peculiar strain of genre-fluid dubstep and EDM since 2016. His use of Classical/Romantic Era sampling and instrumentation has earned him a lot of fame.
Last year, to note, Apashe released his greatest masterpiece so far: Renaissance. Naturally, the new tour we will be discussing will be the first time the world gets a live take of this mind-bending record.
On the topic of KANNIBALEN Records:
Black Tiger Sex Machine Release Hair-Raising New Single “Creature” Featuring JT Roach
Time Warp Featuring Sami Chaouki
Let’s talk about this single. No, we need to talk about this single. Even for a variant dubstep DJ like Apashe, this track hits like nothing else. Time Warp is the harbinger for Apashe’s newest project-in-progress, “I Killed The Orchestra.”
The digitally-corrupted eeriness of Sami Chaouki’s vocals combined with a mix of deep and abstract sounds (including what appears to be a siren of some sort) is nothing short of hair-raising. Brass and string timbre predominates the mix alongside a more modern bass synth and a meaty clap of a kick.
You also can catch this track in our curated EDM Fresh Drops playlist via Spotify.
The “drops” themselves are elegantly crafted to slowly pulse more so than scream. Apashe’s craft is a breath where others would squeeze air out in a big gust. Time Warp gives the illusion of artificial life by techniquing empty space in the soundscape. Introspective, but no energy is lost through this and the song remains more interesting, acoustic, and attention-grabbing throughout the duration as a result. Time Warp can officially be classified a banger as far as we are concerned.
