Livestreaming has taken over the world with games, movies, and shopping. Now, Walmart launches the first shoppable livestream on Twitter today, Sunday, November 28th. It will be hosted by Jason Derulo.
Twitter’s First E-Commerce Livestream
Twitter started out in the e-commerce industry by providing shopping on profiles. Twitter will now allow users to host shoppable livestreams. Walmart debuts Twitter’s livestreaming features through its pilot stream on the Walmart Twitter page today (Sunday, Nov. 28th) at 7pm ET. It will run for 30 minutes.
During the stream you can buy electronics, home goods, apparel, seasonal décor, see surprise special guests, and more. Walmart has hosted 15 shoppable livestreams since last December on its social profiles and website, but this will be the first one on Twitter ever.
“With several events now under our belts, it’s encouraging to see more and more customers tuning in to shop with us. We’ve learned a lot along this journey and are applying feedback to make each of these experiences even more fun and engaging for our customers.”
William White, Walmart Chief Marketing Officer
Twitter is relatively behind when it comes to E-commerce livestreaming. In comparison, TikTok, Meta (Facebook), and YouTube have already had major success in places like China and the US. Think about it like those QVC shows that would showcase different products, but as a more modern equivalent.
Shoppable livestreams sit at the intersection of entertainment and e-commerce, all on social media. It’s a lucrative industry given that the pandemic encouraged people to shop online more. According to McKinsey Digital, it is estimated that 10% to 20% of all commerce sales could come from livestreams by 2026.
