New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$ is back with another studio album, ‘Long Term Effects of SUFFERING,’ highlighting and elevating their signature horrorcore trap sound. The duo, consisting of $crim and Ruby da Cherry, put together a 13-track project with producer Budd Dwyer that definitely contains more hits than misses. On top of that, they did it all with no features. While this may not be music for the faint of ears, underground hip-hop fans are graciously blessed with another solid addition to $uicideboy$’ deep discography.
‘Long Term Effects of SUFFERING’ by $uicideboy$ branches from their signature sinister sound that contains consistent elements such as dark trap lyrics, rolling percussions, and aggressive deliveries; and of course, long titles such as in the 2nd track, “If Self-Destruction Was an Olympic Sport, I’d Be Tonya Harding.”
The album contains a mix of rowdy, aggressive party songs and slower, more emotional tracks. There’s a song to really fit any type of sad boy moment, whether it’s an angry-sad, or a screw-everything-lay-in-bed-all-day kinda sad.

If your idea of an enjoyable house party is moshing to mildly commercial sounding metal rap slash horrorcore, then there are plenty of songs to add to your party playlist from ‘Long Term Effects of SUFFERING.’ First off, the two tracks that go the absolute hardest are easily “Bleach” and “Materialism as a Means to an End.” But don’t get me wrong, track two (with the crazy long title) also keeps up with the high energy. “WE ENVY NOTHING IN THE WORLD.” is another rambunctious track, though it’s proven to get old quick.
Though $uicideboy$ are known for their rowdy trap sound, they take it down a notch every once in awhile, while still staying consistent with their ominous message. In ‘Long Term Effects of SUFFERING,’ the duo hits different energy levels throughout while still keeping a cohesive sound.
“5 Grand at 8 to 1” and “Ugliest” bring out a groovier side from the underground legends. While “Life is but a Stream~,” “Forget It,” and the last track (with another long title) reveal a softer side.
The leading single from the album, “New Profile Pic” also proves to be a favorite. Assumingly due to the familiarity from the “$outh $ide $uicide” sample throughout. Either way it’s a solid track that accurately embodies their consistently recognizable sound.
Overall, while not every song is a hit, ‘Long Term Effects of SUFFERING’ genuinely elevates $uicideboy$’ signature sound; a sound that’s vile to most, but ear candy to many.
