Two of Seattle’s finest degenerates have returned with an incredible collaborative album. Sam Lachow and best friend Ryan Campbell have been making music together since the Shankbone and Brand New Bike days, but Octopus marks the first official collab album from the longtime MCs. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by DSane at Digital Age Sound.
Campbell and Lachow elevate each other on this project as decades of chemistry are evident from track one. Lachow’s beat selection this time around resulted in one of the best collections he’s produced in his career thus far. Campbell’s presence on all 10 tracks is a welcome addition compared to the verse or two we’re accustomed to on previous records.
I’ve been listening to Lachow since 2011 and his arc as a human being and artist has been extraordinary. From the highs and lows of addiction and sobriety to stories of lifelong friendships and carving out an infectious heartfelt discography along the way – Sam’s story is a quintessential human story, we see little of ourselves in the beautiful tragedy he’s recorded throughout all of his records. His music has been part of the soundtrack of my life and many others for the last 15 years and Octopus is a welcome chapter to Huckleberry’s storybook.
