It’s impossible to put Noochie in just one box. His music ranges across all sub-genres and styles of hip-hop. Each song is a new experience with influences from all around, tied together with consistent high quality production. Which is no surprise with him being a certified audio engineer. His playful delivery creates a sound that pulls you in and just simply makes you feel good. This is especially prominent in his 2018 hit, “Confessions.”
Noochie proves that you never know what a DC rapper will bring to the table, and that the DMV area rides hard for local talent. After discovering him earlier this year in our “7 Emerging Washington DC Rappers You Need To Know” article, I knew I had to dive deeper into Noochie’s music and roots.
We had the chance to learn more about his background in a written interview that you can check out below. Noochie dropped some gems for emerging rappers and fans alike, laying it out straight and to the point.
RMR: How do you feel living in the DC / DMV area has shaped or influenced your sound?
Noochie: Growing up in the Gogo scene I feel like it made me have a different appreciation for live music and that bounce. In the production I choose for my songs I think that plays a big role.
RMR: You seem to have a very strong local following. What advice do you have for other emerging rappers that are trying to make a name for themselves in their own communities?
Noochie: Simple, just be you. It’s easy to stand out when you ain’t trying to be like anybody else.
RMR: Has living in the DMV brought you many opportunities or do you plan to move away to pursue your music career further?
Noochie: I have a motto that you don’t have to move you just have to move around. I think in order to grow with you city you have to stay rooted in it but you have to get out in the world and show them who you are and what you got to offer.
RMR: With the pandemic putting a halt on live events, what form(s) of promotion did you find to be most effective during the pandemic, and what changes are you going to make with it coming to an end?
Noochie: I started a series called #FrontPorchFreestyles™️ way before the pandemic, fortunately I do it on my front porch and it was something I was able to continue during the pandemic as something to keep feeding my audience. Now that the restrictions are easing up, I plan on getting back on any stage I can get my feet on.
RMR: What kind of projects should we be expecting next from you?
Noochie: I’ve been creating so much over the last 2 years and now I’m gearing up the singles with videos, mapping out all the non-music stuff and I plan on dropping a bunch of stuff before the summers over.
RMR: If you were reincarnated into any animal, which animal would it be and why?
Noochie: I think I’d be some kind of dog. So I could still be in the crib with it. Most of the other animals gotta sleep outside.
