Maine may not be one of the first states you think about when you think of hip-hop, but the place definitely has some culture. With a pretty solid break-dancing scene, hip-hop has always bubbled below the surface as artists such as Spose have been able to make a name for themselves there.
We decided to break the seal and let you know about 6 up-an-coming rappers from Maine worth checking out today. They all have unique sounds, with inspirations being clearly pulled from so many different places. This is possibly our most versatile list in the last year.
6 Maine Rappers Worth Listening to in 2022
Shane Reis

Best known for his 2017 regional radio hit “Wave,” Shane Reis, pronounced “rise,” has been performing live since the age of 15. Supporting national acts such as French Montana, Khalid, MadeinTYO, and more, he has become recognized and respected as an emcee in the New England hip-hop scene. He has released seven albums with his most recent solo project being, Sorry, I’m Trash. However, his most recent project is a joint album titled Separated At Birth featuring DAP.
Killer Jay

Killer Jay is nice with it and brings a heavier tone to this list with his New Year drop, “GTA.” With a beat that reminds me of some Playboi Carti-meets-Detroit drill, he raps with a Woo-like deep tone. He blends together several influences to create what comes naturally and smooth to him. He also released an EP in 2021, Now Or Never, where he matches that same energy on “GTA” with exciting hood-anthems.
Myles Bullen

Myles Bullen is a very upbeat and positive soul that loves to talk to their fans on Instagram and at shows. With one of the most unique styles I have ever written about, Myles considers themselves more of an art poet than a rapper. He has a more soft rap and rhythmic poetry approach. Over the last several years, Myles has been performing across the country in 40 states and parts of Europe, working to get more comfortable in front of people. That work has paid off as they continue to grow and make music in a market that is always looking for something different.
P-Will

P-Will was one of those artists who was all over the search page on Instagram when I first started looking into the Maine hip-hop scene. Born in Philadelphia but moved to Maine in 2004, the 23-year-old University of Tampa graduate has been pursuing his music dream with a fever. He created his own production label, NewWorld Hustle, and has built a following through performing at local venues and collaborations with notables artists such as Troy Ave.
B. Aull

B. Aull also dominated the Maine hip-hop search results as the rapper has built a name for himself built on lyricism and melody coming together as one. It’s no surprise his number one inspiration is J. Cole; he even did a similar naming style, but artists like GoldLink and Anderson .Paak fuel that melodic engine. Enjoying that mix of singing and rapping, Aull ticks another category of music for this list, adding to its noted versatility. Very prideful of where he’s from and his roots, B. Aull just dropped a new video called “Portland Lover,” Maine not Oregon, four days ago.
Cam Groves

The final hip-hop artist on our list of Maine rappers is Cam Groves. A close associate of Spose, they released a joint album in 2019 titled We Smoked It All 4. Unfortunately, other than a few other singles in the same year, there doesn’t seem to be any new music in the last couple years or so from Cam Groves. The artist has remained active on social media so hopes are still up to see something new from him in 2022.
