This past October, the Respect My Region squad traveled from Seattle to Califonia in search of the best cannabis on the West Coast. Along the way we stopped at many of the current legal cannabis shops, inquiring about what the seasoned staff was smoking without regards to price or favoritism.
At Dr. Dina’s Alternative Herbal Health Services in Hollywood, a budtender strongly recommended the GasHouse ‘Mochilato’ strain. At first, I was more stoked with the other items in my purchase but that quickly came to end once the jar was cracked. This was one of my favorite flavors on the entire coast. Inspired by how much I enjoyed the product, I did some digging and found a Vice Documentary on the group behind the product.
Kingston, the lead grower and man behind the mask at GasHouse has over 20 years of growing experience. Yet, 18+ of those years were not in a legal market. Growing cannabis in secluded houses in Atlanta, he honed his craft waiting for a chance to take the hustle legal.
That time has come, and the group now has a facility in Oakland, CA. This is one of the first stories I’ve heard in legal cannabis where someone grew at a high level outside of medical and legal markets and came to a legal market with their experience. Many West Coast cultivators grew in the medical days where there is a legal resume to publicly discuss. We’ve even heard stories of folks from all over the states move to California or other legal markets just to get into weed. I’ve yet to hear anything like that of the GasHouse team.
Roll something up and sit back and watch this.
GasHouse On Vice
“Cannabis is an interesting animal because you have something that by some estimates is a 50 billion dollar industry underground. And you have all kinds of people of color in the underground. They largely built it. They know how to market and sell cannabis as well as or better than anybody.” – Scott Bonagofsky CEO of Cannaplex
