David Morales Arrested in Japan on Suspicion of Smuggling Ecstacy

Grammy-Award winning DJ and producer David Morales has been arrested at the Fukuoka airport for smuggling ecstasy on a flight.

Morales was traveling from Hong Kong to Japan when he was discovered with about 300-milligrams of ecstasy among his belongings. He was detained in Japan, where he was set to play at the Bijou nightclub in Fukuoka on October 6th. The following day, he was supposed to play at Sound Museum Vision in Tokyo.

According to The Asahi Shimbum, Morales denies the allegations, saying the drug was not his, and “somebody had likely slipped it into his belongings.” Authorities discovered the drugs while Morales was going through Japanese customs.

Though 300-mg of ecstasy is a relatively small amount, smuggling drugs cross-country is a serious offense.

David Morales made headlines recently when he accused hip-hop artist Kanye West of sampling one of his basslines without credit for his track “I Like It.” Morales claims that the bassline is from a track he produced over 20 years ago, titled “What Is This Thing Called Love.” You can compare the two tracks here.

Hopefully, David Morales can get back on the road soon. In the meantime, you can listen to some of his new music below.
