Morgan Parriott, 24 from a small town in Minnesota, more better known as Call Me Karizma. A hip-hop artist with a huge twist in his style of music. Emo meets Indie, meets raw and urgent. Therefore, you certainly have not heard anything like his music which makes him stand out so much as artist.
Earlier last month, Call Me Karizma released a new 7 song EP titled “The Gloomy Tapes, Vol. 2.” This is a continuation of his previous EP “The Gloomy Tapes, Vol. 1” released last year. This new EP above all seems to be a start of a new chapter for Karizma after dealing with some negative and life-altering incidents.
You certainly can feel the emotion and truth of his feelings in the lyrics and music in the new EP. To sum up, as a follower of Karizma’s work for the past six years I can definitely say this is the best I’ve ever heard from him. I got to sit down and ask him some questions about his new EP to get more of the story behind it. See what he had to say below!
Call Me Karizma Exclusive Interview
What was the inspiration of this new EP and the concept behind it?
Karizma: The inspiration was mainly my childhood and teenage years. I didn’t have the best relationship with my mom and that directly affected how I viewed my friends and family growing up.
Recycled Youth and Monster has a more edgier, fierce sound than any other tracks on the EP. how did that come about?
Karizma: I grew up listening to a lot of Eminem and I was directly inspired by that edgy and hard-hitting sound that he brought during the Marshal Mathers LP era.
Out of all the songs, is there one that stands out to you the most or means the most to you?
Karizma: “Imaginary Illness” stands out not only sonically, but substance wise. I think anyone battling mental illness can relate to it. It’s a very important record and I believe it’ll be a song that stays with me for my entire career.
This EP reflects a lot of growth in your music and you as an artist. Do you think your time away from social media contributed to that in this new music?
Karizma: Yes. There was a lot of inspiration and anger built up that I was able to release through writing music. Most of the songs I recorded in my time away from social media didn’t come out on this EP, but will be coming
What are the next steps you are wanting to take after this EP?
Karizma: I am going to continue releasing music and get back on the road. Many people on the internet, mainly those who have never met me, are trying to take away my ability to meet my fans. I don’t care if I have to walk this country and shake hands with every supporter. I will play music and tour and give my fans what they deserve.
