Social Equity Cannabis Brand 40 Tons Drops Free Social Impact NFT at MJ Unpacked in Las Vegas

40 Tons Brand pioneers as one of the first companies to offer an NFT at a major cannabis convention. Partnering with Tye Die Art Collective, NFT Blvd, and Potcoin ($POT), the company released a social impact NFT collection at MJ Unpacked featuring over a 1,000 NFTs.

40 Tons is a Black woman-owned premium cannabis, clothing, and accessories brand from Los Angeles, California. They represent those impacted by the system. This includes cannabis prisoners, victims of the war on drugs, and their families and loved ones, while a booming billion dollar industry flourishes across the globe.

Jail Cell Booth at MJ Unpacked Calls Out Hypocrisy

If you were lucky enough to go to the MJ Unpacked convention, you probably spotted the jail cell booth. The 40 Tons booth stood as a bold social statement during the Las Vegas cannabis convention to point out the major hypocrisy within the cannabis industry. Namely, that cannabis prisoners should be freed if it’s a legal industry now.

40 Tons provides a quality cannabis experience while bringing more diversity and inclusion of BIPOC communities into the cannabis space. Their ultimate goal is to help free the 40,000 prisoners still imprisoned over nonviolent cannabis offenses. They aim to achieve this impressive feat with support on their latest NFT Project, “40 Tons of NFTs.

Overall, the company plans on dropping 80,000 total NFTs under a broad collection called “40 Tons of NFTs.”

The 1,000+ NFTs that dropped at MJ Unpacked are the first two drops of the entire collection. They plan on releasing the other NFTs within the span of 5 years. This is to give the funds time to build before suspected total US legalization of cannabis in hopefully 2 years.

Buy a ’40 Tons Flip of a Potcoin,’ Help a Prisoner

40 Tons is on the forefront of the NFT marketing era by coming up with creative NFTs that are more than just art. Their unique strategy to release the collection as NFTs will surely inspire others in the industry.

The ‘40 Tons Flip of a Potcoin’ NFTs dropped for free at MJ Unpacked. Attendees could collect them just by setting up their crypto wallets on Metamask and then connecting that wallet to an OpenSea account. By buying and selling the NFTs, a percentage of the royalties will go to cannabis prisoners via a separate wallet to help them with a second chance. The goal is that whatever is invested today on behalf of that cannabis prisoner will increase in value as the crypto and NFT markets increase in value over time.

“We believe that NFTs are here to stay and will be a part of how companies, artists, and creators get their art to the masses and create generational wealth!”

Anthony Alegrete, Chief Operations Officer

40 Tons 3D Prison Cell (MJU Exclusive)

Releasing simultaneously is the second 40 Tons NFT drop titled 40 Tons 3D Prison Cell (MJU Exclusive). 45 NFTs were released in this collection specifically for the 45 speakers at the convention. The COO, Anthony Alegrete, hopes it’ll catch their attention for the cause.

Each speaker NFT will be a 3D video tour of a 1-to-1 render of the booth from Las Vegas and allows you to collect Potcoins. A percentage of all Potcoins collected, traded, and sold will go into a 40 Tons “Prisoner Wallet” to increase in value over time. It also incentivizes people to purchase Potcoins and hold them long term. Imagine donating to a cannabis prisoner today in cryptocurrency and years later that prisoner is released. What would the future value of that crypto be? Certainly, this is a first-of-its-kind type of fundraising.

“When I went to prison there was no such thing as a metaverse, or NFT. So to have my freedom and participate in the latest technology movement is truly something special.”

Corvain Cooper, Chief Brand Ambassador

40 Tons Community Initiatives

While prisoners locked up for cannabis await their release, 40 Tons provides direct and indirect financial assistance, job opportunities, connections, and more to give prisoners their second chance.

“We wanted to do something different and be a true social impact brand. We can make money but we can also have an impact.”

Loriel Alegrete

The company has a set of community initiatives built into its business model, including career fairs, expungement clinics, and prisoner commissary support. 40 Tons eventually plans to launch a family visitation program that can help offset some of the heavy costs associated when an inmate is incarcerated across the country. These are just some of 40 Tons lofty goals. They believe if they focus on mission driven initiatives, and not just profits and bottom lines, they can see longevity in the space.
