Sometime last week, popular EDM artist Marshmello quietly made a donation of $500,000 to the charity organization KIND. KIND (Kids In Need of Defense) provides no-cost help for unaccompanied and refugee children in a court of law.
Marshmello’s sizable donation was met with thanks on KIND’s twitter, where they posted the following:
Thank you so much @marshmellomusic for your incredibly generous donation of $500,000 to KIND! Your support in our work to ensure vital protections for children alone will go a long way in helping to guarantee the services that our clients need. #GivingKINDness #immigrantchildren

KIND’s primary line of work is providing pro-bono attorneys to refugee and unaccompanied immigrant children. They are staunch advocates for child safety in a hostile refugee climate.
On their website, KIND provides the following context for the need for attorneys:
“More than 60 percent of unaccompanied children in the United States—tens of thousands of children—do not have lawyers in immigration court.
Unaccompanied children with attorneys are five times more likely to gain U.S. protection while only one in ten unaccompanied children without attorneys win their cases.”
The $500,000 donation from Marshmello will certainly be put to good use, as the need for immigration attorneys has skyrocketed in the current political climate.
We applaud Marshmello’s donation to KIND, and we hope it goes a long way in representing immigrant and refugee children in court. If you would like to make a donation to the KIND organization, follow the link here.
