Happy Pi Day, lovely Respect My Region readers! The first Sonido Global of March has a lot of hot choices for y’all! Ivy Queen, Delilah, and Elsa y Elmar are just scratching the surface of what’s bound to be a list for many to enjoy over and over. We hope you like what you hear, everyone! It’s gonna be good, trust me.
Maria Becerra & Ivy Queen “PRIMER AVISO”
Give me a better song to kick off the first selection for Sonido Global during International Women’s Month. …I’ll wait. “PRIMER AVISO” showcases rising star Maria Becerra with the legend, the icon, the MOMENT NOW AND FOREVER: Ivy Queen. Unsurprisingly, this track’s all about female empowerment as these women along with others in the video come together to create something absolutely badass. Ivy Queen and Maria Becerra produced something truly special, using “PRIMER AVISO” to transcend generations and genres.
Delilah “Modelo”
Another fantastic female powerhouse to mention is Delilah as she makes her mark in the curridos tumbados genre, which should see more queens dominating the space. The songstress’ heartache and yearning are palpable through her soul-stirring vocals in “Modelo.” This same heartache is also very apparent in the video as it shows a hopeful and passionate love story gone tragic. The whole vibe is giving emotional novela, and it keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
Elsa y Elmar “entra las piernas”
“entre las piernas” highlights the complexities of womanhood as well as life in general. The pop rock tune brings a hopeful and positive sounding beat with the lyricism sharing that same hopefulness. Another fantastic choice for International Women’s Month, Elsa y Elmar made a lovely song about self-care, self-love, and self-worth in an unforgiving and judgmental society. Not only is the message unique, but the completely animated music video is colorful and trippy with visual story telling complementing the music perfectly.
J Balvin, Jowell & Randy & De La Ghetto “Triple S”
“Triple S” with Jowell, Randy, & De La Ghetto is just the tip of the iceberg for J Balvin’s return to the soundscape for 2024. And as he mentioned when “Triple S” was dropped, there’s more to come. This release has got infectious reggaeton beats and a video that’s reminiscent of all the beloved mob boss movies and shows. It’s actually giving Griselda as we see the antagonist is actually an incredibly fierce woman. This just goes to show, do not go judging books by their covers.
Xavi “La Diabla”
Another contemporary artist in curridos tumbados, Xavi supplies melodic vocals with a a seamless flow as he aims to woo the object of his desires. Giving off confidence in his flirtatious lyrics, Xavi assures that he can give anything and everything his woman wants. The lavish lifestyle he describes and offers is evident also in the music video with his clothing, the partying, and overall aura.
Alex Favela & Ingratax “Vino Rosa”
Vino Rosa translates to pink wine, and as most know, wine is crying juice. Moreover, drinking wine during a breakup is a recipe for that internal conflict on whether you should let go or hold on. The majority of us have been there, done that. Regional Mexican tones fuse with synth pop as you see both Alex Favela and Ingratax with passion in their faces and mannerisms throughout the music video as they narrate this heart wrenching ballad.
Young Miko “curita”
Young Miko stays making an appearance not just in Sonido Global but worldwide because she just doesn’t seem to quit! She’s the Boricua Energizer Bunny as she releases hit after hit, building up crazy momentum for her album. What’s more, “curita” shows a softer side of the reggaetonera. While she usually exudes confidence (as she should), she expresses trying to keep her cool as she longs for a woman that she’s hoping has moved on from her ex. The end of the music video is triumphant as fans sing along, and the one she desires shows up for her.
Sebastian Esquivel, Blessd & Eugenio Esquivel “EXCESO”
In my opinion, this is the ultimate party song of the week right here. “EXESO” with Sebastian and Eugenio Esquivel and Blessd gives European club vibes with its discotheque beats and rhythm as well as lively and fun-loving lyrics. There’s still elements of regional Mexican instrumentals heavily throughout the song, giving this song such an enjoyably eclectic mix. If the song wasn’t enough to get you feeling lit, the music video itself is one giant house party so exciting and luxurious, Jay Gatsby would approve if you ask me.
Gonzy, Seiko & Arcángel “X’CLUSIVO (REMIX)”
Gonzy, Seiko & Arcángel come together in this collaboration to highlight that the best kinds of relationships are the ones where you’ve got a partner that will love you and have your back always, but also down to just let loose with and not gaf! The beat in this urban Latin hit is catchy and upbeat, providing just the right mood that complements finding your person not only because of the warmth of their affection but also because of the heat they bring when it’s time to have fun and get a little crazy. The black and white filter gives the video an extra artsy look.
Carin León & Kane Brown “The One (Pero No Como Yo)
Wrapping up Sonido Global is the unexpected duo, Carin León and Kane Brown. These two come together to perform a bilingual ballad first debuted during the famous award show, Premio Lo Nuestro 2024. The regional Mexican/country combination makes for a synergy that may surprise some, but it really shouldn’t at the same time. Both these genres and artists share a lot of parallels, and that’s something that only becomes more obvious as you watch the rural music video that brings a sentimental warmth that is special to this particular collab.
That’s it for another two weeks, everyone! If you couldn’t get enough of these bops, you can always find them in our official Spotify playlist. If you know of anything that should be on this list, don’t hesitate to let us know on Instagram! Keep it real, RMR Fam.
