Like other cannabis brands, Gentlemen Smugglers started in the legacy market. However, not many can say that they were the main targets of Operation Jackpot, a massive drug investigation under the Reagan administration that convicted over 100 drug smugglers. Because of the scale of their operation, Barry “Flash” Foy and his team of smugglers were put on the map. Now, they aim to make their names known again, within the legal market, of course.

Gentlemen Smugglers Brand
The Gentlemen Smugglers are getting into the legal cannabis game, partnering with Root & Bloom. The brand will be launching its first store in Massachusetts this month. There, GS will offer mini pre-roll packs, singular pre-rolls, and premium flower eighths. Within their line of cannabis, you may choose between two tasty adventures: “High Tide” (sativa-leaning, great for daytime use) & “Low Tide” (Indica-leaning, great for nighttime use). Another partner of Gentlemen Smugglers is The Last Prisoner Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform. The non-profit will receive a portion of the proceeds from their sales.
The Story Behind Gentlemen Smugglers
Interestingly, the story of Gentlemen Smugglers is memorialized in Jason Ryan’s bestselling book, Jackpot: High Times, High Seas, and the Sting That Launched the War On Drugs. Additionally, the founders dub their smuggling history as a “high stakes adventure.” where they ended up smuggling over 250 tons of cannabis to the masses between 1971 and 1986. This is when Barry Foy and the Smugglers owned the East Coast trade, in the heyday of illegal cannabis. Eventually, it all came crashing down; in the opening act of President Reagan’s War on Drugs, Barry received 11 years in prison. This obviously hurt business for a while. Now, Barry is out and doing business again, this time following a few more rules.
“We never lost our rogue spirit, belief in the plant, or sense of humor. We’re older and wiser now and ready to do business again, using our platform to support ending needless incarceration for nonviolent marijuana crimes.”
