A rose that grows on the battlefield stands strongest against all it may face. From hard times come better days. As we persevere through the issues of police brutality and racism the voice of love and positivity must stay strong. Yel, an artist from the Tri-Cities now living in LA, adds her voice to the chorus. Dedicating her latest single “How Many Days” to those fighting for equality.
“How Many Days” was produced by Yel’s brothers Topp and Nobi who are both notable local artists themselves. A love story of falling out, this track holds a major bop melody that starts with Yel talking about the beginning of a relationship. From there it begins to evolve into more of a countdown. Literally asking how many days till it’s over and figuring out how to be okay with that pain.
“In with the pain it’s hard to describe it, lost in your words we never ignited. How could you love with hate your in pocket? Hard to let go with feeling toxic”

Time For Change
This “How Many Days” concept can also be applied to whats going in our country today. In the wake of the George Floyd protests we find ourselves asking. How many days until an African American no longer has to feel afraid when being pulled over? How many days until peaceful protesters fighting for equal rights don’t get tear gassed and shot at? How many days until there is change?
These problems aren’t new to our country. For years now people have been trying to voice these issues and make a change only to be silenced and forgotten. As a nation we created a bad habit of getting distracted. Showing anger and frustration for what only felt like a short time until something terrible would happen again.
It feels like a lot more people have finally woken up. In what is becoming one of the largest civil rights movements in history there are some signs that some change could come. But we can’t get quiet now. To rise above hate and violence we must all continue to come together and unite our voices as one. Continue to ask how many days, until you see that day come.
“Always Choose to be 100% yourself, follow your passion and purpose. Take risks not because you think its “dope” or “cool” but because you feel like it’s what you should be doing.”
