“Antidote” Turns A Downward Spiral Into Something Personal
The center of “Antidote” is the uncomfortable realization that having too much fun and can eventually turn destructive.
The song draws from personal experiences involving losing control, hurting someone close to you in the process, and eventually realizing that you need that same person to help pull you out of the situation you’ve created.
According to Weathers, preserving that vulnerability became especially important during the recording process.
“‘Antidote’ reflects personal experiences with having too much fun to the point of going off the rails. And then finding yourself unable to help yourself, therefore needing someone to help pick you back up even though you’ve hurt them during your downward spiral.”
The band quickly realized that the initial recording had captured an emotional quality they couldn’t easily recreate inside the studio. Instead of attempting to polish away those imperfections, Weathers kept much of the original material, including the vocals.
That decision gives “Antidote” an added layer of authenticity. Rather than sounding overly refined, the performance maintains the emotion that existed when the song was first created.
Weathers Continue Building Their Latest Chapter
“Happy Pills” became an important song in the band’s catalog and helped introduce listeners to their combination of alternative rock, dark pop influences, and emotionally honest songwriting. The Moonbloom Tour Brings Something Different To The Stage
Weathers will soon have the opportunity to bring “Antidote” to audiences across the United States as the band heads out alongside alt pop duo VOILÀ and Ella Red for the upcoming Moonbloom Tour.
The tour is being presented as a theatrically immersive production incorporating aerial performers, sword swallowers, magicians, jugglers, and other elements alongside the musical performances.
