In time for 4th of July, The Obama’s new show We The People is now available on Netflix. This series presents 10 short episodes that fuse music with educational content. The show was created by Chris Nee, the creator of ‘Doc Mcstuffin,’ Kenya Barris, the creator of the “Ish” series, and the former first family, the Obamas.
The series fuses music and animations with civic education, creating an engaging and entertaining learning experience for any age. Season one features 10 music videos covering a range of lessons. The information is tailored more towards young people, but also provides value to others that may not be educated on the topics. This series can be especially helpful to new citizens and those in the process of getting citizenship.
Each episode of We the People Show is four to five minutes and features educational music from popular artists and poets. Some of these artists include H.E.R., Adam Lambert, Cordae, KYLE, Bebe Rexha, Janelle Monáe, and more. Each song has been created exclusively for this series and cover civic topics such as taxes, citizenship, and the government. Songs range from soul to rap to even country, all holding a passionate and engaging sound.
The former President and First Lady have also shown their excitement for We The People on Instagram stating: “Michelle and I are excited to share our latest show from Higher Ground: We The People. Some of our favorite artists got together with amazing animators to remix civics—and the result is a lot better than what we had in school. Check it out on @Netflix this July 4.”
