Def Jam is making some huge changes this year. Shortly after Snoop Dogg joined the team in June, Def Jam appointed a new CEO, Tunji Balogun. Prior to this role, Balogun worked at RCA since 2015, most recently as executive vice president of A&R. This followed over seven years at Interscope as well.
During Balogun’s time at RCA he was involved in signing numerous huge stars including Khalid, Brockhampton, Normani (via Syco), and Bryson Tiller. In 2018, Balogun partnered with Courtney Stewart, Jon Tanners, and Jared Sherman, to co-found Keep Cool, a joint venture with RCA. There’s certainly no doubt that Tunji Balogun is qualified for his new position at Def Jam.

Prior to Tunji Balogun taking this new role at Def Jam, the label had been run by Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Harleston. Harleston also holds a position at Universal Music Group as executive VP of business and legal affairs. Just shortly before this, Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg was the CEO of Def Jam, joining in Jan. 2018 and leaving only two years later. He stills remains President of Eminem’s Shady Records, however.
Balogun’s new position comes after a series of promotions and hirings at Def Jam. Rapper Snoop Dogg joined the team in June as executive creative and strategic consultant. Also, longtime employee Nicki Farag has been promoted to executive vice president and general manager.
It seems Def Jam is in great hands with Tunji Balogun as CEO, and there is certainly more growth ahead.
