Born 2 Rap – The Game
Game originally blew up in the early 2000s working alongside Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Eminem, G-Unit, plus legends like Nate Dogg, Just Blaze, and pre-Yeezus Kanye West. One of the first artists to join Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records, the Game’s debut LP, The Documentary, was released in 2004 in partnership with Universal.
Prior to The Documentary and being signed to Dre, The Game actually didn’t start rapping until 2001. Inspired by the likes of classic artists like 2Pac, the Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, and Jay-Z, Game became a rapper after being shot during a home invasion. Having grown up in a rough neighborhood and surrounded 24/7 by illegal drugs and violence, he also came up listening to N.W.A, The Chronic, and Doggystyle. Inspired and mentored by West Coast legends, his gritty in-your-face style of rapping has always reminded me of a young Ice Cube or Snoop Dogg combined with Kanye’s “I don’t give a fuck” type of confidence.
Born 2 Rap once again proves why Game will always be in the conversation for the best, and the hardest rappers of all time. This album just firmly solidifies his position in history as one of the greats.
