News broke early today that EDM artists Skrillex and Poo Bear are collaborating with Japanese pop star Utada Hikaru on a theme song to the long-anticipated Kingdom Hearts III. The game was originally set to feature a Utada Hikaru song called “Don’t Think Twice,” which you can listen to here.
However, this new song evidently titled “Face My Fears,” was added to the ASCAP music registry just recently. Here’s the registration for the track from the ASCAP website:
Utada Hikaru has been known to write the theme songs for the Kingdom Hearts games since they were first released. Her single “Simple and Clean” was featured as the theme for the original Kingdom Hearts game, and her song “Passion (Sanctuary)” was featured as the theme for Kingdom Hearts II.
Fans were delighted but not surprised to hear that another one of Utada’s songs, “Don’t Think Twice,” would be the theme for the 3rd game. However, this new track throws a wrench in the plans for the soundtrack. “Face My Fears” would not only be the first song to share a spot as the theme for the Kingdom Hearts series, it would also be the first time Utada Hikaru has collaborated with an English artist for a Kingdom Hearts theme song.
Is this new song a replacement for “Don’t Think Twice,” meaning that the original theme is now out of the running for the Kingdom Hearts III theme? Or, is “Face My Fears” actually a second and altogether different theme for the game?
One thing’s for sure: this new song, “Face My Fears,” is bound to be the most high-energy theme this series has ever seen. We can’t help but be even more excited for the release of Kingdom Hearts III.
