There was a lot of noise around the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. I guess it makes sense when you lose Geno Smith and franchise legend DK Metcalf in the same year, but the narratives around Sam Darnold and Jalen Milroe coming to Seattle have been out of control coming into this season.
Darnold signed a three-year, $100,000 contract with a $30 million signing bonus and $55 million in guaranteed salary. Milroe is an athletic freak, but an unpolished pocket passer who is nowhere near where Russell Wilson was coming out of college. People love the comparison, but I think it’s lazy for many reasons. Milroe was never going to start. It was always going to be Darnold.
The reason why this narrative bothers me is because it wasn’t representative of what the team was actually building coming into the 2025 season which is this: Sam Darnold is coming off a career year and trying to take his next step as a franchise quarterbcak, Jalen Milroe is going to sit and learn from Darnold and Drew Lock, and our defense is going to continue to do incedibly silly shit in Mike MacDonald’s second year. Not to mention, the offensive line might not be pedestrian for the first time in years. Seattle Seahawks fans have been in agony for years over this issue.
The vibes are high, and for good reason, but it seems like the oddsmakers are sleeping on the team while the football world expects Coach MacDonald and the Seattle Seahawks to take a step forward this year.
Seattle Seahawks 53-Man Roster
There weren’t too many surprises here. Tory Horton stole Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s job. The football nerds had that one pegged early in camp. It’s nice to see Shaquill Griffin back on the team. He was initially signed, then released, but now he’s back on the practice squad.
The entire defense is returning with the addition of Demarcus Lawrence. We could be witnessing a Legion of Boom-like return to form for the Seattle defense. Those are lofty expectations, but on paper, it’s hard not to get excited. We have five legit pass rushers, dynamic defensive backs, and one of the most brilliant defensive minds in the league calling plays. This feels like the time to be excited, if there ever was one.
Seattle Seahawks Wardrobe Keeps Getting Better
The brand-new “Rivalry” jersey release was controversial to say the least. The biggest complaint I saw was that they too closely resemble an Oregon Ducks uniform. It’s hard to argue with that, but I still think the look is clean. The iridescent green helmets carry the uniform, and I like that there is more wolf-grey back in rotation. Throw those in with the throwbacks and the rest of the home and away combos, and the wardrobe is sitting in a nice spot.
Smash the Over
Las Vegas only has the Seattle Seahawks finishing with seven or eight wins for the 2025 regular season, which seems like a good bet. I would smash the over on that, especially this year when the rest of our division seems beatable. San Francisco can’t stay healthy, Matthew Stafford’s back situation is dicey, and the Cardinals are the Cardinals.
Coach Mike won 10 games last year with a very similar roster. If the offensive line can stay healthy, the team should surpass eight wins with little problem, because the team has one of the easiest schedules of the year and a ton of chemistry going into the year.
