Andrew Savoie and Chimaroke Abuachi joined forces as Remember Face, an abstract hip-hop duo that is known for their trippy and hallucinogenic sounds productions. I’ve been listening to Seattle hip-hop for six years and I’ve never heard anyone quite like this duo.
Their heavy lyricism invokes visions of superheroes clashing with super-villains in a dark-grey and rainy Seattle setting. Their self-titled album is free on Bandcamp, but you should throw them a few bucks for their hard work. “Invaders” featuring veteran Seattle MC Phil Harmonic is well worth your money alone.
“A shapeshifter floats through the song like a disembodied griot, rapping about the push and pull between conformity and self-actualization. With Remember Face, the duo of Andrew Savoie and Chimaroke Abuachi challenge hip-hop convention while exposing the creatures lying beneath our masks of civility”
Remember Face – Hugo Stiglitz ft. Eff is H
“Remember Face plays like a series of masterfully crafted vignettes. Savoie’s experimental soundtrack, which sounds like music for a suspense thriller filtered through a hip-hop lens, blends seamlessly with Abuachi’s supernatural storytelling style”
You can catch their performance at Barboza on Jan. 12. The fourth stop on The Seattle World Tour is sponsored by Crane City Music, Papa Bueno Tequila, Utopia Sparkling Water and Mary’s Place. All Star Opera, Guayayba, and DJ J-Nasty are also on the bill. Barboza is one of the most intimate venues in the city, there will be no mistaking Remember Face’s hypnotic presence and horror-hop sounds.
