Seattle-native dance group ODESZA has been putting on killer sets to the delight of fans, and they’re back with their most ambitious venture yet: Sundara. Sundara is an all-inclusive resort festival happening in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The festival lineup is stacked with the biggest names in dance, and ODESZA is headlining. The other openers include RÜFÜS DU SOL, RL Grime, Alison Wonderland and more.
Some ODESZA fans have concerns about Sundara’s future success.
Lately, there have been a string of dance artists attempting their own destination shows. Namely, the failed “Island of Light” by Pretty Lights (cancelled due to weather), and “Anjunabeach” by Above & Beyond, which was widely regarded as too expensive for fans.
Sundara may end up going the way of Anjunabeach, judging by the package prices. Packages for the destination festival start at $1,339.75 per person, if you book the same room with three other friends. And, that’s only if you stay for three days of the five-day event.
If you’d like to book a room solo, you’re looking at a price tag of over $3,000 for a minimum of four nights of partying. That $3,000 is for the cheapest type of room.
Sound confusing? It is. The cheapest price point by far is if you want to go with three friends and book one room all together. Even then, for 3 nights in a room with 4 people packed in, the $1,339.75 price point seems a little steep. Also, that price does not include flights.
Another possible hurdle for ODESZA is the fact that Bassnectar is putting on a dance music festival called “Deja Voom” at the exact same location, two weeks before Sundara. The headliners are different, but carry a similar musical style. Bassnectar is of course headlining Deja Voom. He has supporting artists Rezz, The Glitch Mob, 12th Planet and more.
We’re certainly hoping that ODESZA pulls through and makes Sundara a success, despite the difficult price point and other obstacles. If you’d like to purchase a ticket package to Sundara, the packages will go on sale starting Tuesday, October 23rd, at www.sundarafestival.com.
