Hailing from our very own Bellingham, Washington, the dance duo ODESZA recently had their biggest performance yet at Coachella 2018. Their set stunned Coachella attendees with groundbreaking visuals to accompany their music. They even included an in-air drone show during their performance.
Needless to say, a massive amount of work goes into such a complex set on a high-stakes stage. ODESZA has shared a video with their fans that goes behind-the-scenes into what it takes to plan and execute such an incredible experience.
Since their humble beginnings as college students at Western Washington University, Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight have worked their way to the top of the dance music scene. Among their numerous accomplishments, their track “Line of Sight” earned them a Grammy nomination in 2018. In their Coachella behind-the-scenes video, Mills remembers that they were incredibly nervous:
“It was a really strange moment of excitement, but also knowing that we really have to prove ourselves.”
With the help of their creative director, Sean Kusanagi, Mills and Knight set out to create a visual experience that held the same wonder and magic as their music often carries.
The visuals for the set included 3D modeling of scenes with mystical giants, futuristic sports cars, and satellites in space. The video clearly shows the attention to detail put into each aspect of the set. In addition, the drummers for the performance are shown attending the rehearsals, a welcome aspect to the multi-layered audio and visual experience.
If you had any doubts about ODESZA’s quality of work, or their ability to put on a good show, then this video removes any fraction of uncertainty. The final product is a sight to behold, and sets a standard for performing artists worldwide.
