On January 18th, New Jersey Marijuana Regulators finalized cannabis lounges regulations in the state. This will allow people of the legal smoking age can buy and use marijuana products on-site.
New Jersey Marijuana Regulators Finilaze Rules For Marijuana Lounges
New Jersey Marijuana Regulators vote unanimously at 4-0 on social use rules, which will be formally in the New Jersey Register next month. Under these rules, lounges are prohibited from selling food and alcohol; however, patrons can bring or order food as long as the local government allows. This comes about one year after the commission first released consumption lounge rules.
Commissioner Charles Barker said the application process will be “exclusively period for social equity, diversely owned businesses. He adds that this is a “critical component to establishing equity and level the playing fields.”
The rules limit businesses to owning one social use license, regardless of how many dispensaries they currently operate. Microbusinesses will also have a $1,000 fee to obtain a consumption area endorsement and a $5,000 fee for standard businesses. Members believe this will generate more tax revenue from sales and annual fees. There’s also thoughts that this enhances the economic benefit for the state positively.
NJ-CRC Executive Director, Jeff Brown, recently stated the state will hopefully see more than $1 billion in cannabis sales this year with the growing number of licensed marijuana businesses.
New Jersey’s cannabis industry continues to evolve, and it seems that it’ll continue to develop with the passing of regulations. Lawmakers continue preparing for a busy year as they file more bills touching on issues such as home growth, banking, employment protections, and much more.
