Brandon Ulmer is a red dirt artist from Nebraska and finds inspiration from various red dirt artists, including the Turnpike Troubadours. Brandon Ulmer and his band, Brandon and the Elevens have finished up a tour and are now ready for another. Additionally, besides trying to book shows, Ulmer says he’s trying to ensure more of his red dirt content is out on various platforms.
“I want to make sure it’s high-quality content.”

Ulmer said booking can be a challenge because venues in the area need to trust the artist. However, by listening to previous recordings or watching videos, gives these venues the trust they need. In response to this, Ulmer’s trying to release more content but wants to ensure it meets his expectations.
Brandon Ulmer Speaks about Red Dirt
Brandon Ulmer was 22 when he picked the guitar up and it’s been history ever since. Now at the age of 35, Ulmer takes his grandpa’s guitar with him to play on stage. “It’s my sentimental thing,” Ulmer recalls not even knowing his grandpa played until he started playing.

First coming together in August of 2023, Ulmer and his band have already played as far north as North Dakota. Brandon Ulmer Music’s Facebook page posted on February 17, 2024, “Each time I hit my furthest destination, I keep wondering what’s further down the road I could try and get to.” Ulmer had been in a previous band who had played as far south as Texas.
Ulmer is striving for the sound red dirt music has. He commented how different the infrastructure is in Nebraska, with the radio stations. “Country pop seems to be more popular up here.”
“The difference between red dirt and Nashville country is the songwriting.”
Brandon Ulmer
Ulmer says the songwriting is what makes red dirt music different. He said when writing red dirt, its true and from the heart. In contrast, Nashville country doesn’t have that ‘true meaning.’
Advice to Other Red Dirt Inspired Artists

“You have to be business savvy.”
Brandon Ulmer
Ulmer stresses the importance of how important it is to consider the business side of music. “You have to have confidence in your music, but that’s only half of it.” Ulmer says he learned very early on what works and what doesn’t for his music. “Running a good business behind it is everything.”
