Mozzy just released a new album, Untreated Trauma, which is climbing the charts at a rapid pace. He collaborated with EST Gee, Babyface Ray, Kalen.FrFr, and YFN Lucci to create tracks that are as cathartic as they are meditative.
The album ranks second on Apple Music’s “Hip-Hop/Rap Albums” chart, right next to Drake’s new album, Certified Lover Boy.

The Unique Therapeutic Impact of Untreated Trauma by Mozzy is Remarkable
The Sacramento-based rapper said that this album was a form of therapy for him.
Mozzy was raised by his grandmother, and so he grew up without his parents. Throughout his adolescence, he experienced close family members losing their lives to drug addiction, and neighborhood kids dying at very young ages.
His words are reaching a young generation who may not have the resources to go to therapy.
“I just feel like a lot of people within our community, a lot of people that look like ourselves, we experience a lot of trauma just growing up being from the hood; whether it be early losses of death or crazy jail time, people away from their kids, they’re young life and I feel like it’s a lot of trauma that we experience that goes untreated.”

Life can be filled with senseless or brutal experiences, and the impact can be hard to escape.
It’s obvious that Mozzy’s authenticity and vulnerability appeals to a large population of people who are working on their own healing.
Mozzy Preaches the Importance of Having a Positive Outlet for Negative Feelings
“If we lose somebody right now, we’ll go to the funeral, get high, and you know, rep him to death … The people who look like us or come from the streets, I feel like, we look down upon expressing ourselves to somebody else, or just cleansing the soul. And I feel like it’s important to implicate in the music,” Mozzy said.
“Straight to 4th” was recorded after the death of a loved one. Mozzy describes it as “one of them soulfuls, one of them therapies.” He addressed his grief head-on in this song.
“[I was] just going in there, venting, venting and letting it out, crying out. I recently just lost somebody I love, and that beat came on, and I just went in there and vibed out.”

Mozzy works to heal generations of trauma through his art. The result has been so influential, that many have compared him to Tupac and Nipsy. However, the raw emotion that comes through on Mozzy’s new album stands on its own.
