As of November 26th, former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has launched the Tyson 2.0 cannabis brand in Colorado. Tyson first appeared in the industry in 2017 with the line “Tyson Ranch.” While that business didn’t succeed, Mike wasn’t about to leave the industry so easily. The new version, Tyson 2.0, is reportedly operating their first grow houses with a staff of well renown industry veterans.

Tyson 2.0 vs Tyson Ranch
Tyson 2.0 CEO Adam Wilks reasons that, “Tyson Ranch failed due to bad management and lack of cannabis knowledge. Unfortunately, management was not what it should have been. Which is why for Tyson 2.0, I’m here, and I’m excited to launch Mike’s cannabis brand for real this time.” His words don’t fall short as Wilks ran licensing and royalties with companies like Pinkberry, Cold Stone Creamery, and YUM fast food brands. Since 2013, Wilks has managed over 30 cannabis brands in North America.
Tyson 2.0 is teamed up with Columbia Care, a multi-state operation in medical cannabis. When asked to give a statement, CGO Jesse Channon said, “Because of Mike Tyson’s passion for cannabis, and the insight he brought to this brand through his own positive outcomes, we knew we needed to bring this product line, which has such a broad appeal, to market as quickly as possible. We’re thrilled to be able to ramp up our partnership when we did. It is also perfectly fitting that we are launching in Colorado, one of our largest markets, and look forward to leveraging our experience and scale to bring it to fruition across the country.”
A Personal Passion
Mike Tyson has been open and vocal about using cannabis to calm pre-fight anxieties and as a safe pain reliever. For athletes across the country, cannabis is a safe alternative to opioid painkillers and muscle relaxers. One of the most recognizable interviews with Mike Tyson is when he fought Roy Jones Jr.
In a CBS interview Tyson stated that:
“I smoked during fights. I just have to smoke, I’m sorry. I’m a smoker … I smoke everyday. I never stopped smoking.”

Their Edge in the Market
What sets this company apart is that Mike Tyson personally chooses the strains they carry. Now what does it take for a product to be approved by Mike? Tyson 2.0 will typically preference the most potent strains, though the brand also wishes to appeal for lower tolerances. Some favorites include the common classic “Sour Diesel” and a strain called “The Toad” named after Mike’s toad licking experiences.

Mike Tyson stressed that their genetics will come from the East African country of Malawi. Having recently legalized medical use, CNN reports that Tyson will soon become the cannabis ambassador for the country’s Ministry of Agriculture. Having such a direct trade with the Malawian government will give Tyson 2.0 a serious edge in North American markets because of their access to an African ecological agriculture.
In terms of product and sales, Tyson 2.0 will have flower grown from three different mediums. This includes direct sunlight with low potency, experimental greenhouse strains, and indoor with high potency. Coloradans can get excited for their line of Heavy Bags which will retail at under $100 per oz, likely coming out to around $120 after tax. In the near future we can also expect to see edibles, drinks, and concentrates. Take a look at their website and be sure to stay on the lookout for Tyson 2.0 and try “The Toad” for yourself!
