Mic Capes released his album Concrete Dreams towards the end of 2016. A dope project with some incredible tracks. Now Capes has given us a stunning video for “Black Pearls,” his powerful anthem that celebrates black women.
Opening up on a stunning natural location, Lauren Steele starts with a spoken word verse that sets the tone for the video. “Living amongst the struggle makes black love larger than life … Black woman, you are beautiful.”
Mic Capes – Black Pearls
Ft. Lauren Steele and Aaron O’Bryan Smith
Society and the media have always pressured women to appear as their epitome of beauty. Black women have been pressured even further to make them feel as though they needed to change the color of their skin to fit the media’s ridiculous vision of what beauty is.
“Black Pearls” needs to be seen and heard, loud and clear throughout the world. As Aaron O’Bryan Smith sings on the chorus, “I feel your pain, girl, yes I do. Don’t change a thing, you’re beautiful just the way you are. You are a queen, embrace every flaw, every scar.”
In honor of Black History Month, I beg you to listen closely to these lyrics. Share this video with the world, and make an effort to change societies dumbass standards of beauty.
