Originally from Gaithersburg, MD, Portland-based rapper Mannovelli has been expanding his presence on the west coast by dropping two new videos for his songs “Bukowski” and “Cigarette” – where both songs demonstrate his crisp thoughtful flows paired with smooth yet emotional instrumentals. While most artists have opted to develop their artistry around the trap based sounds that are prominent throughout hip-hop, it is refreshing to hear an artist such as Mannovelli who has selected more R&B driven instrumentals that showcase the dexterity and emotion of his verses.
For the video of his song “Bukowski”, the visuals are quite simple as they don’t overpower the main messaging within the song. In regards to the lyrical content, Mannovelli is candid and up-front with his words. “Bukowski” is mainly centered around more dark themes, which can be seen in the hook with the lines “I can hear the devil still just calling my name/tiptoeing off the bottom I won’t fall in the flame”.

In addition, Mannovelli’s second video for his song “Cigarette” shares a fair amount of similarities due to the simplicity of the visuals mixed with his thoughtful and creative messaging. Produced by M. Varas, the R&B synth-driven instrumental is a perfect fit for the open-ended flow that he demonstrates throughout the song.
