If you aren’t fully aware of up-and-coming SeaTac rapper/producer Keshawn, now’s the time to change that before you embarrass yourself by leaving him out of the talks for hottest music acts out of the Seattle area. Luckily for those not yet in the loop, the ringleader of Black Heart Gang just released the perfect track to introduce you to his croon-rap style: “Wait a Minute,“ produced by one of the best in the game, K-Swisha!
Keshawn, at only 19 years young, has built quite the following thanks to the infectious energy he performs with and puts into every track. Following up Love Stains, his self-produced debut project,”Wait a Minute” is Keshawn’s most polished track to date, with his signature flavor of auto-tune being honed in to assist his vocals, but this time allowing his inflections and delivery to shine.
Perhaps the most appealing part of his new single, Keshawn is able to avoid the repetitive nature of the new wave genre of rap. Instead, he gets his lyrics stuck in your head by creating memorable moments throughout the entire track. For example, when he cuts the beat and belts, “BLACK HEART IN MY BODY, I CAN’T FEEL A THING”, he quickly changes the feel of the song and allows his voice/lyrics to take center stage.
Keshawn uses different filters to cue transitions and minor beat-switches in the middle of verses. This type of moment building in a single track really helps his music stick out in the current landscape of hip-hop, where everyone is trying to make the new viral hit with a one-word hook repeated over and over again.
Thanks to linking up with new management (TAJ KING Entertainment) and engineer Chris Pack, the sound quality and attention to detail of his music is even better than before, making it easier to let this track ride until you catch yourself singing his hook under your breath randomly throughout the day. Keshawn and the BHG have been making noise in the Northwest hip-hop scene for a minute, throwing shows and opening for the likes of Wifisfuneral, Waka Flocka, and Lil Skies.
After releasing a banger like “Wait a Minute,” it’s obvious that their buzz and content is only going to continue to strengthen.
