Kent Jamz, rapper/singer and frontman of the LA-based rap group Overdoz, released his first solo LP two years after “Janktape Vol 1,” a joint album between Buddy and Kent Jamz. The project is called Fanclub and features a blend of smooth melodic lines and prominent bars. This long-awaited project showcased how versatile Kent is and what he can do alone.
The feature list includes Buddy on the songs “In Search Of” (Which is featured on Janktape Vol 1) and Boomerang. GoodJoon Overdoz bandmate is featured on “All The SMOCE”, and A$AP Ferg on “Or Not”. The album’s themes consist of love and navigating life through relationships and other experiences.
Album Review
The album opens and closes with his daughter singing and talking. Along with conversations throughout the project between the homies and his ex-talking about what they believe is acceptable and what isn’t. The first five songs shift from him focusing his energy on himself being a superstar and “Rolling Wit the Homies”. To feeling himself and falling into temptation with women in LA. On “Or Not” A$AP Ferg has a different approach and can see through the woman’s actions easier than Kent. “Ghetto Girl” is the first love song on the album. Where Kent describes someone who is simple and loves him for him.
With the next three songs, there is a more serious tone ” All The SMOCE,” “The Gram,” and “Boomerang.” Where you can see that Kent isn’t upset but he’s more so frustrated with the women and the homies. Due to them on the gram showcasing themselves as different people online than in real life. The last four songs of the project have a similar vibe to the beginning bringing everything full circle. The last song “Taj Mahal” is about him finally finding the one girl that he’s been looking for proud to show her off.
Overall, this album is great. It’s very cohesive from top to bottom with the production. You can also see Kent change gradually through each song. Kent is a very good singer! His tone is great, and his harmonies are mixed perfectly. He takes his time when he raps but still flows on time with the beat. This album has high replay value for me and I can’t wait to see what is in store for this man in the future. Favorite Tracks include “Girl Next Door,” “In Search Of,” “All The SMOCE,” “Or Not.”
