No, the EDM artist Kaskade hasn’t opened a marijuana dispensary in Los Angeles. But for a while, his fans thought the strictly Mormon DJ was cashing in on the cannabis industry boom in LA.
The confusion started when a dispensary in LA’s Koreatown surfaced on the internet with the name “Kaskade Collective.” Its Yelp page featured a photo of what appeared to be a postcard with the word “KASKADE” on it, styled in a similar way to the artist Kaskade. The postcard is now removed from the page.
Here’s the postcard in question:
After fans brought the dispensary to his attention, the artist Kaskade’s team was quick to threaten legal action against Kaskade Collective. According to multiple sources, the dispensary promised Kaskade’s legal team that they will be changing their name.
Judging by the fact that the image of the postcard has been removed from Yelp – and that the page went from being unclaimed on the platform to being claimed in the past day – the dispensary seems to be taking the legal threat seriously.
For the artist Kaskade, his image of being a straight edge Mormon is a difficult one to maintain in an industry that’s full of drug-fueled raves. This incident no doubt shook Kaskade’s brand image, even if it was just for a few days.
Now we’ll have to wait and see whether or not the dispensary in question will actually change their name.
Would you have mistaken this dispensary as one facilitated by the artist? Or is it obvious that it’s not affiliated with Kaskade? Let us know in the comments!
