JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown have announced that their joint album is finished and ready to drop next weekend on March 24. After working non-stop together since January, the pair revealed that the project is titled Scaring the Hoes Vol. 1. It’s first single is here and as chaotic as anyone familiar with their solo work would expect it to be.
“Lean Beef Patty” by JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown
The above track is named after a lifestyle and fitness influencer who goes by the same name as the song title. Soon after the single dropped, she even left a comment on the YouTube video to show support for it. A fairly random subject for a song co-signed by the person it’s about feels like the most on-brand first look of the JPEGMAFIA X Brown crossover.
Hip-hop’s two most notorious menaces joining forces is certainly something that excites everyone. For a select crowd, though, the JPEGMAFIA and Brown collaboration album is a need more than a want. Both artists have distinguished themselves for bringing a rawness to the genre and reinventing the craft in a way that isn’t always easy to digest, but that’s precisely what makes them both so exciting.
Despite not sounding much like each other, they have a very similar approach to making music. Baltimore rapper and producer JPEGMAFIA is known for his digital-punk beats, stripped-down bars and audacious experimentation — certified menace. Detroit MC and podcaster Danny Brown stands out for his trademark high-pitched voice, TMI subject matter and punk tendencies — certified menace. With the two pairing up earlier this year, it became clear that we were in trouble.
Soon after he started working with Brown, JPEGMAFIA announced that he will be dropping three full-length records this year. Whether or not they will all be with his latest partner in crime is unclear, but the fact that the upcoming release has a “Vol. 1” in its title suggests that the JPEGMAFIA X Brown storyline is far from over. Put your seatbelts on because it’s about to be a rough ride, very much by design!
