Jane in Space just released the latest track off their upcoming EP titled “Gorerunner.” This Brooklyn based duo is an electronic/industrial band built from the solid foundation of Jesse Jensen’s mechanized multi-instrumentalist/producer talent, combined with Josh Stillman’s tensive bass guitar rhythm.
“Eat Your Face,” the first released track from the coming EP reminds me right away of old-school Nine Inch Nails, from the repetitious progressions to the tensive angsty, in your-face-lyrics. This track brings me back to the days I used to blast NiN albums like “With Teeth” and “Pretty Hate Machine” through my headphones while I rode the bus to- or skipped- school. That’s the rebellious, emotional, matter-of-fact vibe that I pick up from this track.
“Breaking Glass” was released a few weeks ago and has a slower and altogether different vibe, although it shares a common staple of the band; that grungy, emotional, almost neurotic lyrical and musical attitude. The lyricist is really trying to tell you something in these tracks, and by the tone of his voice, you’d better listen.
Overall, I definitely picked up a 90’s grunge vibe, and simultaneously, industrialized synth-wave and 80’s-esque dark-pop feel. Huffington Post wrote of the group: “like somewhere Radiohead might have ventured if they let loose once in a while.” Although, I don’t think that quote does Jane in Space complete justice. I think they have a distinct sound that’s easy to get pulled into like a black hole. I enjoy the subtle combination of diverse sounds adds up to be Jane in Spaces unique blend of addicting sound. Go give Jane in Space a follow and stay tuned for the full release of “Gorerunner,” coming soon!
