Have you ever felt too high and wanted to know how to not be high anymore? Truth is, there isn’t a lot you can do to end the effects of cannabis quicker, but you can make the time easier to get through. Regardless, you may not want to feel the effects of THC anymore, so what can you do?
How to Sober Up from Weed
You smoked too much and now you have to drive. Pause, these tips are not for you. Please don’t get behind the wheel while intoxicated; instead, call an Uber or cab, take public transportation, walk, or have a sober friend drive you. Now, if you need to sober up from cannabis for other reasons, here are some tips and things to keep in mind.
Before You Get High: Prevention
Now, it already might be too late for you if you’re reading this after feeling too high, so skip to the next section. However, if we caught you before your first puff or bite, read on.
Too much weed, like alcohol or any substance, may lead to unwanted side effects. To avoid consuming too much THC you have to know how potent your product is and the proper amount to use at a time. First-time smokers should opt for a lower percent THC (~17% or less) flower product. Additionally, inexperienced users should take a single hit or puff and wait 15 minutes before deciding to consume more or not. This is because smoking a THC product can typically have you feeling high within 7-15 minutes.
Consuming edibles is a little different, but the same low THC percentage and small dose rules also apply. This may mean you will need to split your edible into halves or even quarters and save the rest for later. You may also have to wait longer before you feel high since these products can typically take up to two hours to produce results.
After You Get High: Acceptance & Distractions
So, you think you consumed too much weed. It may be because this is a totally new perspective for you and it’s overwhelming or it could be because you aren’t feeling well physically. Whatever your reason, don’t worry, typically people sober up after around 3 hours after inhalation of cannabis, but it can take a bit longer for an edible (2-3 hour peak time, with 6-10 hours of potential brain fog).
There are many remedies out there that say it can help sober you up from weed. However, solutions like black peppercorns and lemon water have not been proven to reduce the symptoms of cannabis intoxication. The best thing you can do is accept that this is going to be a temporary feeling that you will overcome. After you’ve accepted that you can’t really speed up the process, you can try to distract yourself.
Whether you like it or not, you are just going to have to sit and wait it out. A great way to get through the time is to distract yourself. We suggest doing things like watching a movie, talking to a close friend, scrolling through TikTok, or doing whatever you like to do in your free time, as long as it isn’t illegal to do while high.
By giving your mind something else to focus on, it may decrease your negative feelings and the time may feel like it’s passing quicker. If you are feeling physically sick, however, it may not be so easy to do that. In the event that you feel sick, be near a trash can or toilet.
If you get too high, keep these tips in mind and remember, you can get through this with a little time. If you have any questions, reach out to a budtender.
