Hot Music Friday Featuring 6LACK, Alchemist, Childish Gambino and More

A lot has happened in the past few days. Drake and 21 Savage announced a joint tour, but with ridiculously priced tickets. The online community began mourning the passing of DatPiff before said company debunked the rumors themselves. Pharrell even announced the lineup of his annual Something in the Water Festival! With the weekend here, it’s now time to move away from the news cycle and focus on the force that drives it.

Scroll down to see our picks for this week’s Hot Music Friday featuring 6LACK, Alchemist, and Childish Gambino, among others.

Hot Music Friday – March 17, 2023

“Slipping Into Darkness” – Hit-Boy & Alchemist

When Alchemist made a cameo appearance at Larry June’s Rolling Loud set in LA, a lot of us had to pinch ourselves to check if we were dreaming — that’s right, he really did rap. The legendary producer has now teamed up with fellow beatmaker to double down and give us a whole new verse! In this new video, check out both artists switching bars and beats, creating a new demand for something we didn’t know was necessary.

“Sticky” – Ni’jah (feat. Childish Gambino, KIRBY)

An early peek at Donald Glover’s new Amazon Prime horror series, Swarm, this track is a part of the larger soundtrack package. It’s tough to decipher what purpose it serves in the context of the show, but by itself, “Sticky” almost has a caressing effect for a while before it takes a cartoonish turn. Be sure to tune to in and find out what this bizarre audio cut adds up to!

“Unpredictable” – Statik Selektah (feat. Inspectah Deck, Method Man, Raekwon & Ghostface)

The definition of “stacked”: any song with two or more members of the Wu-Tang Clan. Well, Statik Selektah got four, and it’s everything you’d expect and then some. Quality Wu bars over a classic old-school beat — not much room for error there. Take a moment to bop your head to the masters of the craft this Hot Music Friday!

“Cello Song” – Fontaines D.C.

Irish post-punk outfit Fontaines D.C. deserve a shoutout this St. Patrick’s Day. A high-energy joint glowing with all the passion you need to light up your weekend, this is one of our divergent picks this Hot Music Friday. Still, we insist you work it into your diet because it’ll give you the rush you’re seeking.

“MO UP FRONT” – NLE Choppa

Memphis rep NLE Choppa’s always coming through with that fire. The guy has a flow, style, and presence that most hopefuls can only aspire to, so we’re lucky to have him constantly put it on display. His latest single proves exactly why he is among modern hip-hop’s most promising acts.

“Suffer in Silence” – Rezz

With some help from Canadian DJ Rezz this Hot Music Friday, we’re going to turn things up a little. This new track will get your adrenaline pumping so you better get your rest beforehand. This is one of those songs that’ll get your body moving involuntarily, so know before you listen that you most likely won’t sit still.

“Talkback” – 6LACK

Set to drop his new album next weekend, Baltimore singer and rapper 6LACKs teaser gives us every reason to make Since I Have A Lover a priority listen. With a brief yet rich track record, he has proven himself every single time, and his latest song only goes to show that he’s about to do it again.

“Parallels” – Dion Timmer & Kompany

Sometimes, music can be just so vibrant that it’ll have you seeing colors. This is one such example. Whether you decide to work out or dance or drive to it, Dion Timmer & Kompany will have you in the mood to rage with this cut.

“Regular” – P-Lo

California’s very own P-Lo is currently flourishing on the STUNNA Tour. “Regular” is one of many reasons why — his compositions are tight and crisp, and designed to pop off live. This is only the beginning for him, so we had to give him a shout-out this Hot Music Friday.
