There are only a few months until it is officially festival season. Everyone knows the best way to prepare for festival season is to go to a festival or two in the spring. Recently, I got the opportunity to cover Salt Lake City’s St. Patrick’s Day festival at the Great Saltair.
An event called Get Lucky featured DJs from all over the world. They came and played music for the people in the Salt Lake Valley. Local legends, up-and-comers, and A-List stars shared their stages for two days. Here are some highlights from the Get Lucky festival.

When you first walk in to the doors of the Saltair center, you are greeted with the massive room, rightfully named the Celtic Palace. Two levels make up the room, with lots of room for flow art and dancing or headbanging. The most notable acts that performed on that stage were Riot Ten and his hard trap, hip hop, and dubstep vibes, along with trance/techno legends Paul Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, and Gabriel & Dresden. Plenty of lasers and floodlights to illuminate the dancefloor, making it feel larger than it is.

Once you walked outside, you were greeted with entrancing strings of LEDs and decorations that fit the green occasion. Walking further, you enter the Tent Of Gold. The name was not misleading, featuring treasured vinyl curtains in the form of audio. Notable acts that graced the stage were Wuki and his odd & comedic/ heavy and dirty bass blasts, alongside well-known acts Getter & Mija. The tent may seem form-fitting and compact, but the energy inside definitely showed Utah’s colors.
The People
One thing about music that amazes me is the ability to connect freely with people from all different walks of life, religious & political beliefs, disabilities, and ailments. Music festivals are no different. Typically in the area of Salt Lake City, people instantly think of Mormons and assme that they don’t know how to have fun or aren’t allowed to go out and dance.
V2 smashed that social taboo and crushed it right into the ground. Many members of the LDS faith took part in this experience, many of them enjoying themselves alongside those who consider themselves as atheist, agnostic, other faiths, or whatever else.
