This is not my first article about Elohim, and it certainly won’t be the last. Last time when she was in Seattle, Elohim secretly played a lot of the tracks from her debut album during the set. Obviously, which I didn’t realize until I listened to the album. Although the majority of Elohim wasn’t brand new to me, I thoroughly enjoyed the listening experience and see myself playing it on loop for the next month or two.
The album consists of 15 tracks, some of which has been released prior as singles. The overall balance of the work was impeccable, Elohim mixed in upbeat songs with mellow, and even sad songs, along with short interludes. My personal favorite part of the album is the last part of “Silence is Cool,” where she sings:
I can’t explain who I am
…
It wouldn’t make any sense
Then it seamlessly transitions into “Half Love.”
In the interview with MixMag, Elohim mentioned she’d like for listeners to take away “Love, confidence, inspiration, joy, and magic.” That’s exactly what I took away from the music. A lot of tracks are fun, upbeat jams to dance to, but there are also tracks such as “Why Am I Like This?” and “Insecure” where Elohim spills her candid thoughts and feelings into a track. These two tracks especially resonate with people because it reassures the listener that no one is going through any rough patches alone. There’s a universal sense to things like anxiety, insecurities, and negative thoughts and feelings. Expressing such issues so honestly through her music is how Elohim has built up a loyal cult following.
Take 45 minutes out of your day to give the album a listen! I’d name my favorite tracks from the album, but that would be half of it.
