Ekali is an artist I’ve been following for a while and his Diplo and Friends mix is one that I can listen to on loop. When he was on tour last winter in December, I couldn’t make it to any of the shows and I was bummed out. So I was very thankful that I got to see him this time around finally. This was my first time seeing Ekali live, and like I told him after the show, it certainly won’t be my last.
Crystal Eyes, his latest EP, is an incredible piece of work. You could hear such strong emotions behind each of the tracks. It’s one of my favorite recent electronic releases definitely. I was excited to hear his new tracks live and also some older tracks and remixes. I knew that Ekali would have an amazing stage production and visuals based on the photos I saw from his last tour. As expected, Ekali gave Seattle his all.
The set was phenomenal, and Ekali knows how to read the crowd well. He played a variety of sounds, ranging from upbeat dance tracks, to trance-like tracks, to hip-hop, and also to soft songs that put you in your feelings. I didn’t expect this emotional rollercoaster, but it was a great ride and I’m not complaining.
I like Ekali for more than his music; he’s also an amazing person. He cares for his friends and fans so much, and isn’t afraid to stand up for what he believes him. Additionally, his love for the PNW/Vancouver is like no other, and he makes sure to give back to the community. I have all the love and respect for Ekali and wish him nothing but the best. I can’t wait to watch him sell out bigger venues like WaMu in the near future.
You can stream the Crystal Eyes EP below or on any major music platform. I HIGHLY recommend giving it a listen:
