L.A.-based rapper Duckwrth has been leading the underground rap game for years, and he’s now returned with a new song titled “SOPRANO.” He dropped his debut album I’m Uugly back in 2016, in addition to releasing An Xtra Uugly Mixtape in 2017. Since the drop of his mixtape, new music has been minimal throughout this year.
His single “SOPRANO” is both intense and dramatic. It first starts out with blended vocals heard over a simple progression of chords on the piano. At 45 seconds in, the mood completely shifts to a pulsing 808 and heavy snare instrumentation. As a result, the feel of the song is much darker.
Duckwrth’s new song has strong influences of Childish Gambino heard from the booming lower end to the sliced sampling. The blending of his vocals paired with abrasive punchlines adds a nice mix throughout. Check out the new release below!
