For All The Dogs from Drake is here! The megastar has been teasing the release of this album through social media and while on tour with 21 Savage over the past few months but today is the day! While we’re still digging into the project, we’ve got some preliminary thoughts below.
For All The Dogs sees Drizzy play with some of the usual sonic places he has gone throughout his career while continuing to explore new realms. Over the past few years, the artist hasn’t been one to shy away from “harder” records that we didn’t catch early in his career nor has he been scared to go international with the vibes. All of this hodge podge of sounds without alienating his traditional hip-hop roots. He’s kept a identity around spitting bars, serenading females, providing truckle rattlers, and gave out endless Instagram captions within his lyrics.
For All The Dogs contains all the above alongside high level production on records that can completely switch direction at the drop of a snare. Sonically and delivery wise, Drake gives us some new flavors while providing plenty of classic Drake vibes that fans will easily enjoy. The thing about Drake as an artist is we want him to progress and push boundaries, but we haven’t been sick of the same ole same ole over the past 13 years. Drake can play it safe and satisfy most fans and then throw hailmary like Honestly Nevermind and still grab global rotation. For those that liked the former, Aubrey serves up “7969” and “Gently” on FATD.
Fans that want that classic Drake spitting bars should be more than full off “8am In Charolette” which was co-produced by Pacific Northwest artist Mario Luciano (shout out Everett). There’s plenty of records with samples and ambient pads scatted across the track list that give an elevated feel to that signature OVO sound we’ve grown accustomed too.
Drake single handily changed rap when he first came out. While there were rappers that sang and singers that rapper before him, there was never another quite like Aubrey and there have been a million carbon copies since then. Is For All The Dogs going to change the game? No. Is it going to rock the charts, playlists, club, radio, and AirPods globally? Absolutely.
