The History of Cannabis in Greece May Surprise You
Cannabis was first banned in Greece in 1890. Although they may not have had electricity, there were entire bars designated for smoking weed.
Present-day laws in Greece are much stricter. If caught with a small amount of cannabis for personal use, you could be sentenced to no more than five months in prison. There is good news, though. It won’t be added to your criminal record, as long as you aren’t caught again within a five-year period.

Don’t Sell Cannabis to Your Neighbor
If you’re caught selling it to the locals, that’s a different matter. You’re now looking at up to eight years in the clinker and/or a fine between 50,000 and 500,000 euros. Now here’s the bad news: the euro is currently stronger than the American dollar.
However, for Greek nationals, the medical use of cannabis has been legalized. Currently, Greek nationals can go to their local doctor to get prescriptions for cannabis medical products. That being said, these products are not yet subsidized through the state.
