My top choice for parties has always surrounded cannabis. At house parties, I could be found in the designated smoking area. Without a doubt, I prefer the culture and community created by cannabis. The cannabis community I always dreamed of finding was at Respect My Region’s 7-year anniversary party.
People that don’t understand how cannabis is integrated into my life ask me why I write about it. After February 24th, I realized that the answer was right in front of me the whole time. Nothing creates a community the way cannabis does.
Respect My Region is working to connect art, music, and cannabis in one collective experience. Sponsors and artists interacting inside the Ruckus Room drinking beer and socializing outdoors with access to a food truck and canna-Bus. Being part of it all was a rewarding experience. I’ve only been writing for RMR since late August, I have already seen cannabis and mainstream culture collide and mesh wonderfully.
A friend and I were lucky enough to snag a seat in the back of the canna-bus before it filled up. There were about six of us that managed to remain in the back for a while. Amidst a trippy atmosphere and a constant flow of people on and off the bus, we maintained our position. This gave me a chance to interact with other people as they came and went.

This turned into one of the greatest smoke sessions I’ve had since college, potentially ever. Blunts were sparked and passed around. Numerous joints filled with Gold Leaf’s Peppermint Cookies made their way in the rotation. AK-47 from Dynamic Harvest made an appearance. Showing up in a blunt was Black Afghani Rose from Leaf Werx. There was also Happy Apple and weed-infused champagne. What left the largest impression on me though was the cannagar from Gold Leaf Gardens. A combination of Gorilla Glue #4 flour and rosin composed this cannabis-wrapped cigar.

Cannabis brings people together. Respect My Region’s anniversary was proof of that. Being involved in the cannabis community in the way that I am, even on an anonymous basis, has been extremely rewarding. After that party, I’m excited to see what the next step is.
