Everyone needs time to reflect and ponder about the future. Billie Eilish’s newest single, “my future” is an animated music video that debuted on her youtube channel on July 30th. Included in the directing process was Australian director Andrew Onorato.
With this in mind, the video draws you in with its fairy tale anime flair and playful AMSR influences. Billie expresses her unique synesthesia gift as one of the reasons for her musical aesthetic. As a result, the video showcases that ability in stride.
Beautiful Animation Conveys Billie Eilish’s Story of Personal and Musical Growth
The track starts with Billie and her jazzy velvety vocals and haunting melodies. She was gradually guiding the listener towards the ending with a definite twist.
As an example, the song kicks off with a slow bluesy vibe then switches to a sweet summery tempo when the drums hit around the 1:40 mark. The nostalgic Studio Ghibli-Esque’s animation style speaks to the innocence of Billie’s character. And Billie’s introspection offers us a mirrored view of our journeys along with hers because of these visuals.

Be Hopeful And Work Hard For The Future
Finding inner peace can be a severe burden. Billie admits in a recent interview with Zane Lowe, “I needed a moment to myself, and I got it.” Stating the reason for her desire to be comfortable in her own company was the growth she needed to be who she wants to be in “my future.” These uncertain days with Covid-19 offer us perspective, as Billie puts it in an email sent to her fans,
“hopeful, excited, and a craaaazy amount of self-reflection and self-growth. But recently it has also taken on a lot of new meaning in the context of what’s happening in the world now. I hope you can all find meaning in it for yourselves.”
