Apple Music announced that they’ve created a new technology that allows DJ mixes to be monetized. Producers will be able to claim royalties on their tracks that are played within mixes. Additionally, Apple is working with a number of other music companies to bring mixes to streaming services.
Apple Music Brings Monetized DJ Mixes to Streaming
The new technology utilizes Shazam’s existing music identification technology. Apple says it will, “allow Apple Music to properly identify and compensate all of the individual creators involved in making a particular DJ Mix—including any artists behind the music in the mix.”
Other features of this technology include skipping to specific songs and the ability to see the titles of each track within the mix. Lossless audio and offline listening will also be introduced.
Artists and companies have streamed mixes on Apple Music and other streaming platforms before, but this is not something that’s easily doable or widely available. EDM fans typically resort to SoundCloud or YouTube to get their DJ mix fix in. This is certainly exciting news for music fans, artists, and various companies alike. With Apple Music being one of the major streaming services, it is likely we will see others follow suit.

Artists are Excited to Bring Their DJ Mixes to Apple Music
Charlotte De Witte is just one artist that has expressed her joy for the new direction Apple Music is taking.
Apple Music is the first platform that offers continuous mixes where there’s a fair fee involved for the artists whose tracks are included in the mixes and for the artist making those mixes. It’s a step in the right direction where everyone gets treated fairly.
