Detroit is a hip-hop hot bed and an area we like to dive into when looking for new music. A few months ago, at the end of 2021, we did one of these dives and found 6 Michigan rappers we thought were worth looking in to. From that group, the one who stood out most to us was Amber Chene. She didn’t have much out at the time but the track we did hear, “Pretty Bitch With Gold Teeth,” was too big of a vibe to ignore.
Diversely talented, Amber Chene is a multidisciplinary artist/singer/songwriter, and she also makes statements in fashion and design. Her style is a mix of singing and rapping, presenting both lyrical, melodic hip-hop and R&B sounds. “Social Distancing” is one of our favorite tracks of hers; it really showcases those dreamlike aesthetics and sultry tones we mentioned when first writing about her.

Golden Ratio
In February of this year, Amber Chene dropped her debut album, Golden Ratio. It’s a 12-track project that has supplanted other newcomers and labeled her as a big up-and-comer in the Detroit music scene. Reminding us a lot of Goldlink mixed with some SZA energy, Chene has all of the tools to make it big.
Now, the big key for her seems to be consistency as a city like Detroit can swallow up even the most talented of artists. Her album Golden Ratio is a great start as she promotes and builds off of that momentum. We said last time that Amber Chene is one you should expect to see again soon. The same rings true this time around, if not louder than before with a full album under her belt.
