Vibe Sensai is a hip-hop artist out of the Seattle area who makes music based off of the authenticity of his personal life and people around him. Over the years, Seattle has been home to some legendary musicians such as Jimmy Hendrix and Kenny G, but hip-hop has always been silently percolating in the background.
Don’t mistake this lack of exposure for lack of talent, though. All around Seattle, hybrid emcees wear the hat of entrepreneur, businessman, and lyricist; more driven by ingenuity, self-determination, and an underdog mystique than by clicks, awards, and clout. Vibe Sensai doesn’t do this as a hobby, he does this as a lifestyle. He makes music not because he wants to be somebody else but because it’s who he is.
Somewhat of a problem child, Vibe was often sent to his room where he would pass time writing raps. This grew into a newfound passion for music that would lead to him writing more lyrics and crafting full songs. By 2006, at the age of 16, Vibe Sensai began recording and producing his first tracks. Drawing inspiration from the strive and struggles of his personal life.
“Baby Say She Sweet Like Swisher”
If his name wasn’t enough of a clue, Sensai is all about the vibes, and his latest track “Day Dreamer” is no exception. The beat hits like one of those lo-fi study/chill sessions you can hear on YouTube but with more mixing and mastering. Vibe’s rapping reminds me of some EARTHGANG or Outkast, with a high energy but controlled croon that even Mr. 3000 would respect.
Other influences of Vibe Sensai include Freddie Gibbs, Sauce Walka, and A$AP Ferg, so storytelling and catchy hooks are prevalent in his music. And like some of these artists, Vibe is investing into his own production and merchandise company. He is quickly exhibiting the entrepreneurial mindset necessary for today’s music landscape. Peep “Day Dreamer” below and stay on the look out for more vibes from the Sensai.
