The Port Richey-based company obtained the license earlier in May of 2019. However, they are yet to dispense any medical marijuana nor open any retail locations.

Cookies Has Entered a Tough Market
The Sunshine State’s MMJ market is known for being difficult to enter due to the tough criteria. Businesses must “put up multi-million-dollar bonds, have an inventory of 400,000 plants, and be in business for 30 consecutive years.” In fact, Trulieve’s CEO Kim Rivers and her husband J.T. Burnette are indeed proven to have been involved with adding these practically unfair requirements.
There aren’t specific details on when and where Cookies plans to roll out in Florida, but rumors suggest the first store will be in Miami this year.
“This is a major milestone for the expansion of Cookies, and we look forward to the challenge of growing some of the best cannabis in the world, in one of the toughest climates,” Berner said further. “We are building out a massive cultivation and breeding facility to feed our stores all throughout the state and keep the menu exciting. I can’t wait to embrace the culture and vibe in Miami and hope to secure a location on South Beach, that would be legendary.”
This new venture for Cookies in Florida consequently marks them as the only minority-owned and controlled company to hold an MMJ license in the state. Cookies continues to push themselves and others in the cannabis industry. With 18 dispensaries and counting across Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Las Vegas, Colorado, and more, the 2012 founded company continues to build their legacy.
